One of my Old School Film Cameras

by: Darryl Turner
My Minolta SRTMC2, manual 35mm film camera, obtained on Ebay.  This is an "old school" film camera I bought online.  The photos of the camera are digital, the rest of the pictures were actually taken with this camera.

The lens is a 28 - 85mm lens.  The film is Fujifilm X-tra, ISO 200.  The day I took these pictures was all over the place as far as light conditions were concerned.  The day started out bright and sunny, then became mildly overcast, then went back to sunny, only to become cloudy and almost gloomy.  Believing the day was going to be sunny I only took ISO 200 film with me.  When the sky turned cloudy, I opened my aperture as wide as possible and kept shooting.

These last 2 shots below were actually taken at dusk.

I am a big fan of camera purchases made via Ebay.com.  And now (as of the date of this post) is a good time to consider buying your film camera on Ebay.  The Summer vacation season is just starting.  People are outside, enjoying the weather.  For that reason there are fewer bidders and/or buyers visiting the Ebay website.  Fewer visitors means less competition for the items you might want to buy or bid on.  If your youngster has indicated an interest in taking photography as an elective subject during the coming fall school season, now is a great time to shop for a film camera.  You are not limited to buying film cameras.  There is a also a good selection of digital cameras as well.  Because digital is the new medium, the cost of the cameras will be higher than their film counterparts.  You can expect to pay as little as $5 for a film camera, (yes - I have bought them that inexpensively) but realistically the better cameras will be closer to $30 and up.

'til next time, happy shutter-bugging.
